Teachings by Baba Muktananda

During this anniversary month of Baba Muktananda’s Mahasamadhi, Siddha Yogis and new seekers celebrate and honor this great Siddha Guru’s extraordinary life and legacy. Moved by his own yearning to know God, Baba was drawn to spiritual practice from a very early age.

Baba always sought satsang, the company of the Truth. He dedicated himself to sadhana, the spiritual practice that leads a seeker to attain union with the divinity that exists at the heart of everyone and everything. With the purity of his self-effort and through the grace of his Guru, Bhagavan Nityananda, Baba became a Siddha Guru, holding the power and authority to awaken others through the gift of shaktipat initiation.

Baba often spoke of how love for God and the longing to know God as one’s own Self nourish and energize a seeker’s sadhana. In reading and studying these passages, you can reflect on your own longing and love for God, your own yearning to realize your deepest identity.

As you read and reflect on Baba’s words, you can engage in atma-vichara, self-inquiry, by asking yourself questions like these:

  • What can I learn from Baba’s words that will enhance my sadhana?
  • What motivates me in my sadhana?
  • What practical steps could I take to recognize and cultivate the quality of spiritual longing in my own heart?
