Choose, Respect, Sustain
A Siddha Yoga Satsang via Live Video Stream

Thursday, January 27, 2022

Dear reader,

As February approaches, people around the world are preparing to celebrate Chinese New Year, as well as Ganesh Jayanti and Vasant Panchami. On the Siddha Yoga path, too, we are celebrating. This is the year of the golden anniversary of Shri Guru Gita recitation, and we are contemplating and practicing Gurumayi’s Message for 2022.

There is something more on the horizon, as well.

On Saturday, February 5, at 10 a.m. eastern standard time (USA), a Siddha Yoga satsang will be held via live video stream in the Siddha Yoga Universal Hall. The satsang will begin with the aratiJyota se Jyota Jagao, and shortly after that,we will recite Shri Guru Gita.

There are many paths to realization. There are many spiritual practices that people engage in. There are many ways to come to know God. Shri Guru Gita draws our attention to the power of the Guru’s grace in our endeavors to know God, and it emphasizes the importance of adhering to the Guru’s teachings.

Verse 99 of Shri Guru Gita says: “One should purify one’s mind by following the path shown by the Guru.” Relatedly, therefore, the name of the Siddha Yoga satsang on February 5, 2022, is Choose, Respect, Sustain.

Soon after seeing the title “Choose, Respect, and Sustain,” I realized these are the very actions that have supported me both in my sadhana and in my lifelong study of music.

When I was young, my heart chose to embrace music. I have always had the highest respect for the power of music and for those who teach it. Through sustained practice and studentship, I can now experience the fruits of my efforts and enjoy playing beautiful instruments, as well as teaching and composing music.

Many years ago my heart communicated with absolute certainty, “Siddha Yoga is your path. Choose to embrace it, stay with it, and do the work.” It was an inspired choice. Over the years, I have remembered to respect the rare gift of a living Master, the teachings of the Siddhas, and my good fortune to be on this sacred path. Sustained sadhana, study, and self-effort have brought grace beyond measure into my life and my community.

Contemplating this powerful trio of words sheds new light on my personal responsibility as a Siddha Yoga student and in all aspects of my life, and fortifies my continuing journey. I look forward to this recitation of Shri Guru Gita!
