Glimpses of the New Year’s Day Sunrise III

I catch myself saying, “Good morning, Sun,” spontaneously when I see the sun. It makes me laugh every time. So I'm pretty upbeat right now knowing that “my” sun has been welcomed by Siddha Yogis all over the world today, January 1, 2022.

To accompany me as I looked through the many slides in this sunrise gallery, I turned on Handel's Messiah and listened with my eyes and my ears to the Hallelujah chorus and to “Ev’ry Valley Shall Be Exalted,” which joyously sent me sailing through the slide show.

I usually see the sun at sunset, as it goes to bed in the mountains. So I am especially grateful for all these views of sunrises, taken by so many photographers around the world who patiently waited for the sun to appear.

I so appreciate the picture taken in Sarasota, Florida, USA. My parents lived there before passing. It was good to see Surya Devata looking over their town, blessing it, their friends, and their resting place, welcoming them to 2022.

As I view the sunrise photos from around the world, I am touched by the beauty and diversity of our Mother Earth. I am grateful to all those who  have shared their love of our wondrous planet through their photographs.

This morning, when I woke up, I visualized the dawn of yesterday, January 1. I imagined the invisible hands of God holding the golden disc of the sun and raising it in the sky. In this instant of pure silence, God was giving his light to the world. I was witnessing the intimate, divine act of creation and my heart was imprinted with God’s love.

Afterward, as I was watching the photographs in the gallery Glimpses of the New Year’s Day Sunrise, I visualized a procession of Siddha Yogis holding the light they had received during that sunrise and spreading God’s love around the earth. I felt that, in this radiant cycle of giving and receiving, people were celebrating the presence of God in their life.

It has been overwhelming for me to see the sunrise across the globe on the Siddha Yoga path website. It is truly a divine start to the new year. While watching the photos in this gallery, I could experience myself watching a different sunrise in each different country. I was moving from one country to another, from one place to another—from the ocean to the mountains, and from roads to fields, and much more.

Since sunrises are one of my favorite natural phenomena, I enjoyed this world tour of sunrises on New Year’s Day, 2022.

Just now, hours before midnight in Arizona, anticipating the arrival of 2022, I took time to view the first photos posted on the Siddha Yoga path website of the new year dawning on the other side of the earth. As I did so, I was unexpectedly shaken out of the egoic sense that the world revolves around me. I suddenly felt small and humbled—in a good way—as I experienced that “my” particular moment of the new year's arrival is inseparable from all moments that have come before and that will come after.

It was sweet, even comforting, to feel that sense of self-importance fall away upon recognizing something greater—something steady, imperturbable, and beautiful in the sun's beginning the new year on its timing, not mine. I felt continuous with all time, and small enough to slip into timelessness.

Glimpses of today's sunrise from around the planet are so delightful and nurturing—especially for us here in the rainy season in a Hawaiian rainforest! New Year's Day 2022 began with light mists of water forming and blanketing the area. The mists grew in intensity, turning to gushing torrents of luscious precipitation, giving way at times to only intermittent sunbursts through the forest treetops.

The sounds of the rainforest must have gone silent to my ears at 5 a.m. when the grace of Sweet Surprise filled my living room—and all dimensions of my being! Now I've returned again to these glorious glimpses of the sunrise on day one of 2022.

Shortly after I awoke this New Year's Day, I logged onto the Siddha Yoga path website to see the photos of the first sunrises of 2022. Immediately a smile came to my face and heart, and I heard within myself, “It's a new dawn, it's a new day, and a new me!”

I am open to the possibilities that this new year, 2022, brings and I welcome it with great love.
