Yesterday, after midday, I noticed that the sun had broken through the heavy grey cloud cover. Even though I have been suffering from the flu, I was overtaken by a desire to be in the sun’s light. Wrapping up warmly, I popped out to the yard and basked in its bright, warm light for a minute or so, before returning to the warmth of the house.
When, shortly afterward, I read the invitation to sing the
Arati together in the Universal Hall to greet the sun, I could not but wonder at this synchronicity, examples of which I have often experienced on the Siddha Yoga path.

Ever since I was a child, I have loved the sun and longed to merge into its resplendent light. As a teenager, I had a profound experience of the one light that is within all of existence. This ignited my search for a divine Sadguru. I have infinite gratitude for meeting Gurumayi and receiving the kindling of my inner flame from her boundless and benevolent light.
I feel that Gurumayi consistently encourages me to be like the sun, to experience and share the luminous joy that seems to always be rising and illuminating me within and without. For years, I’ve greeted each dawn by chanting the
Surya Gayatri mantra, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to worshipfully greet the sun, Surya Devata, in the Siddha Yoga Universal Hall on Makara Sankranti.
