“Always sing the name of Shri Gurudeva, and overcome the fear of the cycle of birth and death.” I can hardly comprehend how much support our beloved Guru is giving to us. My brother is close to the end of life. Although we hadn’t been in touch for a long time, I recently called him, and he spoke openly about his state. We talked about God, and I told him about Gurumayi and the Siddha Yoga path. We shared what we believe is going to happen to us when we are dying.

Today I was feeling deeply connected with Gurumayi all day. I sent my brother a link from the Siddha Yoga path website of the Christmas celebration in 2017 because it is filled with grace, love, and joy. I know it isn’t Christmas season now, but my brother later told me that minutes before receiving it, he had been listening to Christmas carols! Watching the video made him cry tears of joy.

When I close my eyes and sing this significant hymn, I find myself returned to the courtyard of Gurudev Siddha Peeth in the presence of Bhagavan Nityananda at the end of the day.

My experience was one of unity with the divine. Just being in the divine presence is a great gift in this world.

For a long time, when we concluded our weekly satsang at the local Siddha Yoga meditation center with Gurudeva Hamara Pyara, we found ourselves filled with bliss and gratitude toward Shri Guru. Now, whenever I see this hymn posted on the SiddhaYoga path website at the end of every month, I sing it with reverence and great joy.

During my journey on the Siddha Yoga path, I have found Shri Guru to be my “life’s support” in both mundane activities and my sadhana. The path shown by the Guru in the form of the Siddha Yoga teachings and practices is truly “our life force, which removes all impurities from our minds,” as verse 1 states. I derive immense benefit from the Siddha Yoga teachings and practices. Also, simply remembering Bade Baba, Baba, and Gurumayi does miracles in cleansing my mind and filling me with happiness.

I am indebted to Shri Gurumayi for this invaluable path. I am also grateful to the Siddha Yoga global sangham for sharing their experiences of the path with an open heart.

When I sing and listen to Gurudeva Hamara Pyara, driven by the beating of the drum, I enter an inner dance. This dance, which celebrates the greatness of the Guru, evokes in my mind the dance of Shiva symbolized by the statues of Shiva Nataraj.

Shiva has entered my life in the form of the Guru, who guides me on the path of sadhana. This beautiful hymn describes for my mind and my heart this process of purification and empowerment through which all aspects of my life dissolve in the Guru—as my “life’s support.”

As a teenager, I wanted to be completely independent and therefore kept my distance from everyone. Soon I realized that I couldn’t cope all by myself with the enormous challenges that life and society presented me. But where could I find reliable support? I longed for a support that would always be there when I needed it.

For me, the mantra Om Namah Shivaya has become that very reliable support in my life. When I repeat the mantra, I am directly connected to my Guru and I sustain our Guru-disciple relationship. When I repeat the mantra, I always receive support in the form of energy, intuition, or silence.

In the form of the mantra, as in so many other ways, my Guru is there for me, making me strong, free, and independent.
