Shri Guru Vachan: The Teachings of Shri Guru

On July 15, 2023, a Siddha Yoga satsang via live video stream took place in honor of Gurupurnima month. Throughout the satsang, participants received Gurumayi’s vachan, her teachings. These teachings from Shri Guru are now being featured on the Siddha Yoga path website for everyone’s adhyayan and abhyās, their study and practice.

The timelessness of the Guru’s teachings always seems to address the essence of the present moment. Whenever the occurrences and conditions of my life threaten to block out the Truth, Gurumayi’s teachings always bring me back to my heart. They help me to return to a space within myself that is beyond time and place, a realm of eternal sunshine and bliss.

My relationship with time has long been fraught with fear. So it was especially powerful for me to receive these teachings the first time—on Gurupurnima 2023—with their focus on how to use our time in becoming our “own best friend.”

Every day since then, I’ve reflected on at least one of these teachings, and recently I have woven them into my study of In the Presence of Time, the daily teachings about time that Gurumayi gave us during the first five months of 2025. I want to be my “own best friend,” as Gurumayi encourages us to do, and I also want to experience time as my best friend. And so, my intention is to continue to find fresh ways to engage with and implement these teachings too.

On this sacred day of Gurupurnima, as I sat reading the Shri Guru Vachan teachings during my puja, I felt each word sink deep within me—stilling my mind and filling me with quietness and strength. Every teaching touched my heart, offering me inspiration for my daily spiritual practice. I was reminded once again that my Guru resides within me, guiding me every step of the way. With folded hands, I bow in deepest gratitude.

As I listened to the music accompanying Shri Guru Vachan with my eyes closed, I was once again in the Shri Nilaya hall in Shree Muktananda Ashram with Shri Gurumayi. I was reliving the joy I felt after completing our evening svadhyaya and listening to the hymn Pasayadan played afterwards. With this recollection, I found myself smiling from ear to ear, feeling totally nurtured, loved, and grateful.

I had no idea there were words to Shri Guru Vachan, but when I finally opened my eyes and saw Gurumayi’s teaching “Be your own best friend,” I smiled even more.

I was in Gurudev Siddha Peeth in 2023 when, during a live stream for Gurupurnima month, we were blessed with Shri Guru Vachan. I remember being completely stunned by what we had received—it was a precious blessing, guidance for life! I felt as if Shri Gurumayi had condensed her teachings and wisdom into nine jewels. Over the next few months, I chose some words and phrases to study and practice.

Today, having the darshan of these jewels again with the awareness of Gurumayi’s Message for 2025 has completely changed my understanding. My focus is now drawn to how Gurumayi uses different verbs in regard to time—create, make, prioritize, carve out, design, schedule, set aside. I especially noticed how she repeatedly emphasizes that it is my responsibility to make my time worthwhile. I have all that I need within me to utilize well the time I have been blessed with on this earth, and doing so is entirely my dharma!

I rejoiced to see the teachings of Shri Guru Vachan return to the Siddha Yoga path website, for I have treasured their compassionate wisdom and encouragement since I first read them two years ago. The flute music accompanying the teachings supported me in contemplating them more deeply, for the purity of its tone and its tranquil, unhurried pace invited me to linger over each teaching so that my heart could better absorb its meaning.

Gurumayi’s invitation to “celebrate the splendor of your efforts and the mystical workings of grace” arrived as the perfect catalyst for me to resume an extensive project I had temporarily set aside. In past years, I had devoted great effort to moving it forward, supported at every step by oceans of grace. Yet lately, I was having difficulty in resuming it, held back by concerns about several “presumed limitations” of mine. Now I feel newly motivated and inspired to proceed, having received the blessings radiating so powerfully from Shri Guru Vachan

After my meditation, I watched attentively as Gurumayi’s teachings appeared one by one. Each teaching felt like deep, ancient, and priceless wisdom. I felt that contemplating and implementing these teachings would lead to a fulfilling and peaceful life full of grace.

Gurumayi’s teaching “Be your own best friend” sounded like a blessing to me, like a key teaching for overcoming many difficulties. I will take this teaching to heart and practice becoming my own best friend—who uplifts me, protects me, and makes me laugh.

As I read and took into my heart each of these teachings, I became increasingly still and absorbed by the Guru’s energy. I want to read these teachings each day and let them be inscribed in every cell of my being.
