In the Presence of Time
~ Gurumayi Chidvilasananda

I love to contemplate my vision of “the ship of time.” To do this, I mentally place myself in a large, stable sailing ship that is able to defy every storm—all the while maintaining a focus on the mantra in my heart and mind, and cultivating a deep sense of gratitude for my Guru.
I experience that the white sails of this “ship of time” flutter in a warm wind that caresses my cheeks. The view across the ocean from its deck extends into nothingness. The sky is blue, and my soul surrenders completely to God’s love. This “ship of time” carries me across the ocean of impermanence and the illusion of worldly happiness.

For me, “the ship of time” is the Guru and the Siddha Yoga path. In my daily life, I can sometimes find it is all too easy to get lost in the drama and the outward pull of the senses. If I disconnect from my Self in this way, I start to feel as if I am drowning in the sea of samsara.
Yet, when I turn within and adhere to the Siddha Yoga practices and teachings, then I feel safe and protected from drowning in the ocean of the world. I believe that this “ship of time” is carrying me toward the destination of my sadhana.
