In the Presence of Time
~ Gurumayi Chidvilasananda

That day, I left home for a professional commitment enough in advance to get there on time. However, on the way I was on an unusually long bridge when an accident caused a traffic jam. When my car had to stop in the middle of the bridge, my first reaction was to feel worried. But soon after, I checked my phone and saw that the traffic jam would not make me late to my appointment. I then turned to the Siddha Yoga path website and started listening to the mantra while waiting for the traffic to move again.
After about five minutes, cars started moving very slowly, and once I’d passed the accident site, the traffic resumed its normal flow. I arrived at my destination ten minutes late but completely serene and centered.

I was captured by the word wise in this teaching. It led me to contemplate the question: How does a wise person manage to use time wisely? The answer that came to me is that if I am established in the heart and act from the heart, then the way I use time will be wise. The focus is on staying connected to the heart, grounded in the heart, and listening to what the heart guides me to do, moment by moment.

Gurumayi’s Message for 2025 has had a profound effect on how I choose to use my time. Over the past few months, I had felt unsettled by the general state of current affairs, even though I had continued regularly with my meditation and chanting practices. Reflecting on Gurumayi’s Message has helped me to make peace with the fact that my psyche cannot absorb world or national news. I must make my time, especially at my age, worthwhile.
That means saving my state of mind, my heart, and my time for creating beauty and being loving and kind. The level of gratitude that I feel for Gurumayi’s Message is unfathomable. Keeping my focus on making my thoughts, words, and conduct worthwhile is such a sweet, beneficial, and important effort for me.
