Teaching 6 from Gurumayi reminds me about the virtue of trust. It encourages me to trust that time has its own rhythm, power, and all-pervasiveness. To align myself with this rhythm means knowing that I am supported by time and that every action I take has the power of my conscious intention behind it

The German word that means “accord” is Einklang, which consists of two parts meaning “one” and “sound,” like the English word unison. When I first began to follow the Siddha Yoga path, the indescribably beautiful and deep experience of listening to namasankirtanas in various ragas opened up for me. I learned to play the harmonium, which allowed me to play certain Siddha Yoga namasankirtanas that best harmonized with my particular state and needs. For example, I have always loved to play Hare Rama Hare Krishna in the Jhinjhoti raga, which evokes a feeling of joy and longing.
I now realize that time itself has sounds that reflect the energy and mood of the moment. With the sound of the mantra, I am always in harmony, always im Einklang, “in accord with time.”

Last night before going to bed, I read the definition of the word accord, part of which was “to be harmonious or consistent with.” This resonated with me and has inspired me to consider that teaching 6 is encouraging me to choose to be harmonious with time.
This morning, it is clear to me that being in harmony with time will lead me to be calmer and more conscious of how I am spending each moment. It will enable me to relax and stay aware as I look within and then act. I feel that by doing this practice, the choices I make will come from my heart, rather than from a reaction to something external.

My experience has always been that in the moments I find myself most in tune, most in accord with my heart’s inner rhythm, time seems to befriend me. Its pace seems magnanimous, which, in turn, enables me to remain in that state for as long as I feel connected to that joy within. This sense of harmony often happens when I am immersed in meditation or when I recognize the Guru’s love in whatever I am experiencing.

When I read the teaching “In accord with time,” I immediately thought of music, Siddha Yoga music in particular! I recall being in Shree Muktananda Ashram, chanting with Gurumayi, the music ensemble, and the
sangham. For me, that was being perfectly “in accord with time.”
An immense room with thousands of people from different countries, all chanting in a single voice! How wonderful, how happy it was! Returning to those moments makes me feel that I can always reenter that room, now in my heart, tuning in with time, “in accord with time.”

Since we started receiving Gurumayi’s teachings in the series “In the Presence of Time,” I have been excited and grateful to interpret each one.
I found myself especially drawn to the teaching “In accord with time.” I immediately began thinking of what it means to truly live “in accord with time”—alongside time, treating time as a companion rather than an obstacle or enemy. I feel that Gurumayi is inviting me to walk side by side with time, according to its natural pace, not any faster nor any slower, and to let the events of my life blissfully unfold.

As I reflect on Gurumayi’s teaching “In accord with time,” I notice how sometimes I feel that I am in alignment with time—as if I were accompanied by time. In becoming aware of this relationship with time, I experience being the witness, and have a feeling of serenity and of not being alone.
