I contemplated this teaching with my Sadhana Circle this week. I reflected on how time was “momentous” in the sense of being of great or far- reaching importance—because without time there is no opportunity for good or bad deeds to be done, and thus for our karma to play itself out. I realized that it’s only because of time that we’ve been able to meet our Guru, receive shaktipat initiation, and engage in our sadhana. It’s only because time exists that we’re able to serve the world, to see the world as a “play of Consciousness,” and—in certain moments—to transcend time.
In our discussion, one person reflected that time is momentous because it’s through time that we finally come to rest in the Self. Others experienced that time allows them to love, and to be sure that time is spent doing things with love and gratitude.
We had such a rich and engaging conversation about this quality of time, and often came to rest in the pure stillness of timelessness.

When I saw the teaching, “The momentousness of time,” I realized that it is what we do in every single moment and how we do it that shapes the future events of our life. For me this teaching from Gurumayi is a powerful reminder that we are indeed in charge of our destiny. What is happening in our life and within us now is the direct result of how we used our time in the past, and every single moment is momentous in creating our life and our inner state in the future.
This teaching kindles a longing in me to make sure I approach every moment with alertness and inspiration.

My six-year-old son recently asked me to explain the meaning of Gurumayi’s Message for 2025. What came up in my heart was to tell him to try to keep asking himself what was the best use of his time right now.
As I considered this question further for myself, I realized that Gurumayi’s Message has given me the opportunity in each moment to go within and choose the most beneficial course of action. It has led me to contemplate the worth of everything that I do, and how these choices contribute to who I am. I now try to ask myself whether I am really honoring each moment of my time, and how I can make every moment count towards something greater.
“The momentousness of time” has been ever-present for me since I received Gurumayi’s Message. I feel so grateful for the fire of contemplation that it has stoked within my heart.

“The momentousness of time” is such a succinct treasure. It brings me into the present. I love that the word
momentousness holds the word
moment within it. At the same time, contemplating the quality of momentousness expands my awareness, giving me a sense not only of the importance of the present moment but of the sacredness of this entire life.
I am so grateful for this seventh pearl to place figuratively on my
mala. I feel as if Gurumayi is teaching me to experience time’s
darshan.

Gurumayi’s teaching “The momentousness of time” is like a mantra for me and is so perfect!
I realize that if I am not in the present moment when I relate to people, activities, and my own thoughts, then I’m either in the past or in the future. Since neither the past nor the future is currently in existence, lingering there in my mind can cause me to feel longing for the “good old days,” resentments toward myself and others, and anxiety about what is to come.
Inspired by this teaching, I will practice being present in each moment with each thought, feeling, event, and person. Centered in each new “now,” I will breathe more deeply and embrace time in each moment.

I looked up the etymology of the word
momentous in contemplating the teaching, “The momentousness of time.” I found a definition that reads, “outstanding in importance, of great consequence
." This definition helped me relate to the teaching; time has great importance and consequence.
Through my studies of the previous teachings, I have been asking myself, “What is time beyond its relevance to scheduling and management?” I don’t have the answers in words at this point, except to say that I am feeling time. I am beginning to suspect that I can find the essence of time by being in the present moment. Here, in the present moment, I seem to be wide awake to my life and the gift that it is.
I am enjoying these contemplations. I greatly appreciate the layered lessons in each teaching.

In order to give time its momentousness, I try to consciously perceive the present moment, knowing that it will fade in the next moment. Many such conscious moments in my life result in a long string of valuable pearls, of which I can later say, “It was a beautiful and momentous time.”

For me, the word
momentous means something great can unfold now! It means a moment more important than destiny. The way I make my time worthwhile in such a moment will not only uplift me in the present but also create a new, wonderful future.
I relish my past immersion in
sadhana supported by grace, which has led me to this auspicious moment.
