In the Presence of Time
~ Gurumayi Chidvilasananda

This morning, the teaching “The dictates of time” inspired me to clean my bedroom and office space thoroughly before reciting Shri Guru Gita. I prayed to Gurumayi that I may give this cleaning task my best. I really got into it, noticing more and more spaces and crevices I could clean out and make sparkle.
At one point, I noticed how calm, content, and in the moment I was. I had no thoughts; I was simply reveling in the present. I realized that by following today’s “dictate of time,” I went from clock time to eternal time.

After I discovered Gurumayi’s teaching “The dictates of time,” I contemplated it following the steps of the
P-O-W-E-R contemplation. I asked for grace and optimized the question as “What are the dictates of my time?” While I wrote without self-censorship, many ideas came up, such as “Your time wants you to stay centered, to be disciplined, to be vigilant….”
Afterwards, when I engaged with the Self and opened up to listen for insight from a deeper place within, a feeling of vastness, lightness, and joy arose immediately from inside—and I heard these words: “Your time wants you to be happy.” I feel grateful.
