Dear readers,
Namaste!
In the northern hemisphere, the autumn season is in full bloom. This means that in many parts of this region, all the colors we associate with Baba Muktananda are vividly present in the surroundings—the reds, oranges, and golds so vibrant with luminosity.
On the Siddha Yoga path we consider the month of October to be auspicious, since it is in this month that we honor Baba’s Solar and Lunar Mahasamadhi. This year, moreover, the celebration of Navaratri—the nine nights dedicated to the worship of the Devi in her beautiful, wondrous, and awesome forms—is occurring right in the middle of Baba’s month, making this time all the more sacred.
The next Svādhyāya Study Session, Session V, takes place on the first day of Navaratri, Saturday, October 17. The focus for Study Session V is the breath.
The breath is integral to living. For the practice of svādhyāya especially, it is most vital, as the breath is what powers your recitation of the sacred mantras of Shrī Guru Gītā. In Study Session V, you will learn about the relevance of breathing naturally, how to draw upon the full capacity of the breath, and the specific role the breath plays in svādhyāya, the recitation of sacred texts. In Siddha Yoga sādhanā, breathing with conscious awareness is paramount.
The details for Study Session V are as follows:
Date: Saturday, October 17, 2020
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Time, USA (live video stream)
7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, USA (webcast)
Here are some ways to prepare for this study session:
- Read and reflect on the talk from Study Session IV, Focus Your Gaze.
- Practice the instructions for how to hold your chanting book.
- Make a note of your insights in your sādhanā journal.
- Prepare a space that is conducive to study.
Stay safe, stay smart, and stay informed, everyone!
Warm regards,
Swami Akhandananda

I feel immensely fortunate to be able to participate in these
Svadhyaya Study Sessions, which have been created with so much thought, intention, and love. There is so much creativity and depth of intention behind each session. And so they enable us, as Siddha Yoga students, to understand the intricacies of why and how to further our
sadhana. I am in bliss!

My husband and I revel in the teachings we receive via the
Svadhyaya Study Sessions. The content is rich and the presentation is thoughtful. It feels as though the wisdom being conveyed simply flows into our beings.
Our gratitude knows no bounds.

This morning as I recited
Shri Guru Gita—practicing what I've learned about posture, pronunciation, and steady gaze from the
Svadhyaya Study Sessions—I became aware that I wasn't sure how to direct my breathing in the most effective way. I remember thinking, "I hope this aspect of
svadhyaya will be explored in one of the sessions." So I was totally delighted to read in Swami ji's email that breath will be the focus for Study Session V.
A prayer heard and answered without even being uttered out loud!
