Eesha’s reflections on “Acknowledgment, a Wondrous Exchange (AWE)” really resonated with me. Acknowledgment is an approach I have come to learn, love, and cherish through studying Gurumayi’s teachings and example, as well as through experiences with my friends.

Several decades ago, a friend pointed out something in my character, acknowledging me for it. It was something I had not been aware of previously. It felt like her acknowledgment shone a light on me. Another friend always sees the good in people and acknowledges them, both directly and by spreading the word to others. Gradually, I have absorbed this way of being into myself, and it’s now one of my favorite things to feel and to do. As Eesha expressed, it’s not about self-indulgence or aggrandizement; I have found that acknowledging others genuinely spreads delight and good feeling.

I was pierced to the core by Eesha’s story about her experience of Gurumayi telling her that she could “just be,” that just her presence is enough, and that she is wonderful as she is. All day today those words have been resonating within me, causing me to stop, take a deep breath, and witness the state of my mind and body. From doing this, I recognized that I was completely wound up over my to-do list for the day. As a result of this recognition, I have realized how often I complicate my life with imaginary tasks and goals that often don’t relate to how things really are and what is really needed. Today, my priorities have changed. I simplified my to-do list and discovered that easier solutions appeared. As a result, I am having a more peaceful day.

Expansiveness is the word I would use to describe how I feel about this final installment of Eesha’s “Meditation on Gurumayi’s Words” series. I have been inspired by its level of articulation, which has led to an expansion of my experience and understanding of the teachings Gurumayi gave us at the Makara Sankranti satsang. It is as if the subtle seeds of my understanding have grown shoots, pointing toward the light that the Guru meant for me to experience.

What an amazing gift Eesha’s “Concluding Thoughts” are! I read them through carefully yesterday and plan to study each section with my husband in the coming days. For today, I am focusing on the mnemonic device, EPOCH. It is the last day of a visit with my eighty-two-year-old mother in which I am assisting her in some very challenging matters. As such, it is extremely important for me to stay focused and use my time well so that I know when to move with great intention to get things done and, alternatively, when to soften and allow space for spontaneous connection and making memories with her. After reading about EPOCH last night, I woke up ready to tune into the energy of the day and to harness it. I am grateful for the “Year of the Horse” imagery. Today, I intend to connect with the magic-ness of the day, to focus on how I can best serve it, and to tap into and harness the immense (horse)power that is available to me through grace and my self-effort.
